Monday, July 21: The state Congress government is providing huge grants for development works along with guarantee projects. Development works are the answer to the criticisms of some, said Madikeri constituency MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda.
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has provided new bus services from Somwarpet to Bangalore, Mysore and Mangaluru, and he spoke after launching the new route at the bus stand.
As for KSRTC, work is already underway on a new depot in Kushalnagar and a new bus stand in Shanivarasante. This is the first time that bus services have started under the KA12 registration. He said the KA12 brand is a symbol of pride. With this, steps have been taken to provide bus services in the rural areas of Somwarpet as well. For the first time in history, government bus services have been made available to Mutlu and Kudigana areas. Now, keeping Somwarpet in mind, bus connectivity has been provided on three new
routes. Horse-drawn buses will start plying to Mysore, Mangalore and Bangalore. He opined that the long-standing demand of the people has been fulfilled.
Bus service will be provided after the completion of Koothi Road. There is a demand for a bus route to Subrahmanya via Somwarpet-Shanthalli-Vanaguru junction. If buses come on both these routes, the demand of the rural people will be fulfilled. The MLA said that an additional settled bus will be provided between Madikeri-Somwarpet soon.
The opposition parties are criticizing the guarantee scheme. They are alleging that the development works of the guarantee are not being carried out. However, Irrigation Minister D.K. Shivakumar has released Rs. 36 crore in the cabinet meeting for the construction of a bridge in front of Harangi. Rs. 49 crore has been released for the development of canals. Priority has been given to irrigation. He said that all these are development works.
For the first time in the district hospital, steps have been taken to build a ‘cath lab’ for heart disease at a cost of Rs 10 crore. The MLAs opined that this will eliminate the need for the people of the district to travel to distant Mysore, Bangalore and Mangalore in case of illness.
Survey work has started at some places on the Madikeri-Somwarpet-Kodlipete-Donigal road under the K-SHIP project. He said that the ground breaking ceremony for the work will be performed within this year.
