Have you ever wondered about the potential of cannabis? Dr. Jannah Rasul certainly has. As a self-proclaimed "metaphysical minister," she understands the power of blending holistic teachings with modern medical practices. Her expertise as a health coach and specialist in cannabis therapeutics allows her to guide patients on their wellness journey with a focus on genuine results. But what sets her apart is her unique approach of going "back to the future," incorporating indigenous practices and principles into our modern world.
Dr. Jannah's work not only dismantles the stigma surrounding cannabis in the Black community, but also in the health industry. As a pioneering author, she hopes to spread her knowledge on cannabis beyond its traditional use as a recreational drug. She recognizes the growing business opportunities in the cannabis industry and aims to educate others on its potential for social and financial equity.
Growing up in New York, Dr. Jannah has been consuming cannabis since her teenage years. However, it wasn't until she became a young mother and a teacher suffering from panic attacks that she discovered its medicinal benefits. Frustrated with the cold and formulaic approach of traditional doctors, she took it upon herself to research natural medicine alternatives.
"It was then that I realized I needed to get into the cannabis space," she explained. "Having been an educator for so long, I knew how to build a curriculum and saw a need for cannabis education and health coaching." Dr. Jannah believes that once patients receive their medicine, they need guidance and support on their journey to healing, which is where her skills as a health coach come into play.
Recently, Dr. Jannah participated in the National Cannabis Festival's Cannatank Pitch Competition, a journey that felt like years in the making. Despite being a finalist by chance, she is confident in her mission now more than ever. "I know that I'm building a legacy right now because there are a lot of cannabis health coaching programs out there, but they don't focus on the behavioral change aspect," she shared.
Through her work, Dr. Jannah hopes to diversify the spaces in the cannabis industry and reduce the stigma within the Black community. She also recognizes the untapped potential for Black people in the cannabis business and wants to encourage others to embrace this opportunity as the industry becomes more mainstream.
"This is a form of reparations," she emphasized. "It's a way for us to get into the space without having to fight against barriers. Our people can become healthcare professionals without the challenge of going through medical school." Dr. Jannah envisions a future where people are more open to the holistic uses of cannabis and where it is seen as a tool for nutritional healing and wellness rather than just a means for profit.
With her new book, "Plants over Pills," and the creation of her development company, Higher Learning Publications, Dr. Jannah is fully embracing her purpose in this venture. "My mission is to spread light on the healing nature of this plant and help amplify the voices of other Black, brown, and indigenous individuals in the cannabis space," she explained. "My purpose in all of this is to fill in the gaps and create a better future for generations to come."
