Dozens saved after boats overturn in Melbourne waters.
In a heart-racing turn of events, a group of over 60 individuals, mostly children, were recently saved from the waters of Melbourne after multiple boats capsized during a regatta at Port Melbourne. The participants were out on their sailing boats, enjoying a normal day on the picturesque Port Phillip Bay, when strong winds unexpectedly hit, throwing them into a state of chaos.

One of the young sailors described the sudden change in the weather as a shock, exclaiming, "We were just sailing along normally and then all of a sudden it was just like, woah!" Another shared that they were about 20 meters from the shore when their boats were overturned. "The boats just blew over," one said, while another added that it was "freezing" out on the water.

Thankfully, the group had taken the necessary precautions and were all wearing lifejackets. However, the rough waters of the shipping channel between Williamstown and Port Melbourne proved to be a challenge for them. The incident occurred around 11:15 am, and the police were immediately alerted. With the help of the Police Air Wing and Water Police officers, as well as the Life Saving Victoria rescue chopper, jet skis, and St Kilda coast guard, a successful ground and water rescue operation took place.

Despite the terrifying experience, all of the sailors were safely rescued. A parent, Julian Goussard, expressed relief and gratitude, saying, "It was a little bit tough and a scary moment for some of the kids, but all together they were all safe." It was a close call, but thankfully, everyone made it out unharmed.
