An FIR has been registered against former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh, at the Khajuraho Police Station in Chattarpur, for violating the model code of conduct. In addition to Singh, Congress candidate Vikram Singh Nati Raja and 70 other individuals have been named in the FIR.
The incident which led to the FIR happened on Sunday, when Nati Raja filed an FIR against the BJP candidate accusing him of killing his aide during the polling. In response, Congress leaders, including ex-CM Digvijaya Singh, staged a sit-in outside the police station in protest.
The BJP then filed a complaint against Nati Raja and the police registered a case against him and his supporters. On Tuesday, after a report from a BJP worker, the Khajuraho police registered an FIR against the ex-CM for violating the MCC and also for not obtaining prior permission for the demonstration.
Later in the day, a closed-door meeting was held between Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, BJP state president VD Sharma and BJP state organisation general secretary Hitanand Sharma. Sources in the BJP revealed that the four discussed the polling percentage, necessary preparations for vote counting day, and the manner in which Congress leaders were attempting to manipulate officials.
When asked about the FIR against Digvijaya Singh, VD Sharma said that more sections should have been imposed on Singh for the violation of the model code of conduct. He also confirmed that the discussion in the meeting was general in nature and that agents would be deployed for the vote counting day.
