Diamond merchant in Mumbai cheated of ₹72 lakh; police have registered a case.
A diamond merchant from the Gamdevi Police station has registered a case against a 21-year-old man who gained the merchant's trust and took a diamond worth Rs 72 lakh without making any payment.

According to the FIR, Aryan Ruprel from Andheri’s Lokhandwala complex runs a diamond shop with his father, Umit Ruprel, in Bandra. A few months ago, Umit met a businessman named Mahesh Vasoya while in Dubai, who, over time, began purchasing diamonds from the shop and paying in cash.

On August 28, Umit called his son from Dubai and told him that Vasoya would be coming to the shop the next day to buy a pear-shaped diamond worth Rs75 lakh. Aryan handed over the diamond without hesitation, as Vasoya had already earned their trust. Vasoya assured them that he would pay half the amount in cash and the other half through the bank, to which they agreed.

However, when the father contacted Vasoya for payment, his mobile was switched off, leaving them feeling suspicious and cheated. They kept trying to contact Vasoya but were unsuccessful. As a result, Aryan registered a complaint against Vasoya under sections 406 and 420 of the IPC Act at Bandra police station on September 22.

The Gamdevi police were able to crack the case and bring the diamond worth Rs 55 lakh back to the rightful owner. The police have also taken necessary action against the perpetrator.
