Jarren Reid was jailed for van-jacking and wounding a delivery driver

A person who stole a van from an Amazon delivery driver and caused them to be suspended from the windscreen has been given a prison sentence.

Jarren Reid, of Lapworth Road, Coventry, will be incarcerated for 13 and a half years after confessing to both theft and wounding.

On November 19 2018, Reid was following a driver for the e-commerce company in his Mercedes A Class along Malborough Road and Dean Street in the Stoke area.

When the driver, Oleg Madan, stopped his transit van to complete a delivery, Reud jumped out of his car into Madan’s and tried to speed away, CoventryLive reported at the time.

But the driver clung to the bonnet of his van in a frantic attempt to hinder the van-jacking.

Reid continued to drive carelessly for multiple minutes as Madan clung on, even driving from side to side and slamming the brakes to shake him off.

The driver was left in a coma

Whilst shouting for help, Madan was thrown off and sustained serious injuries when a lorry struck him, leaving him struggling for his life in a coma.

He still has issues with movement and balance and required complex surgery.

Police recovered Madan’s van destroyed in Shileton Land close to Reid’s home address.

The defendant spent years eluding police – simply uttering ‘no comment’ when interrogated by officers – before he eventually was charged.

DC Keith Clarkson, from West Midlands Police, said: ‘This was a planned theft which left the victim with lasting injuries requiring life-saving surgery.

‘This conviction is the result of some excellent work from officers investigating, as well as the accounts of the witnesses who saw what happened.’
