Dawn French revives her iconic role as The Vicar of Dibley to honor the life of breast cancer charity founder Kris Hallenga.
Dawn French has returned to her beloved role of The Vicar of Dibley for a special and meaningful occasion. On Wednesday, the 65-year-old actor and comedian shared a photo of herself with CoppaFeel! founder Kris Hallenga, who is currently battling stage 4 breast cancer.

Organising a ‘living funeral’, Kris wanted to celebrate her life in the best possible way. Surrounded by people she loves, the dress code for the funeral was ‘YODO’ and the event was filled with a community gospel choirs, comfort cats, old family footage, an ABBA singalong, an aerial performer and a silent disco.

Dawn was honored to be part of Kris’ special day. She wrote on Instagram, “It was my privilege & joy to Dibley it up at her FUNeral on Sat. She wanted to host the best possible party. She did. It was phenomenal. So much love filling @trurocathedral.”

Kris, who was diagnosed with incurable secondary breast cancer back in 2009, called the event ‘the best day of my life’ and she even labelled Dawn’s eulogy as one that ‘blew my heart into smithereens’.

The Vicar of Dibley aired from 1994 to 2000 and saw Dawn as Geraldine Granger, the town’s first female vicar. The series brought joy to many and has since been streaming on ITVX.

It is evident that Dawn has a special place in her heart for her iconic role. Last year, she said she wanted to be buried in her Vicar of Dibley costume with ‘full makeup and lashes’. Her wish is to be laid to rest with ‘the full vestments’ inside a gold casket with a Perspex lid so mourners could see her.

It’s wonderful to see Dawn French return to her beloved role for such a special occasion. Her dedication to the role of The Vicar of Dibley and her support for Kris is admirable, and we can only hope to see her return to the role again soon.
