David Baddiel has confirmed that he has zero regrets about his decision to decline the offer to appear on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! Last year, the author and comedian, 59, revealed he had received an invitation to join the long-running reality series. Though he admitted that it was a difficult decision to make, he said that it "caused me a little pain".
At the 2023 Rose d'Or Awards in London, which he hosted on Monday night, David was asked if he had had any second thoughts about his decision. Without hesitation, he answered: "No, absolutely not. I'm confirmed as ever in my decision to say no to I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!"
The comedian went on to explain why he was glad he had turned down the offer. He said that Grace Dent's early departure from the show, as well as "Nigel Farage's bottom" and the "enormous of insects" were all factors in reaffirming his decision. "So yeah. I think I was right to turn it down," he added.
David had previously revealed on social media that he had been approached to appear on the show. He had even quipped that it would take a personality transplant for him to accept. He also admitted that a "fair wedge" of money had been offered, which he said had caused him a "little pain" to turn down.
The comedian's comments come after former MasterChef critic Grace Dent, 50, left the jungle on "medical grounds". On Monday, a statement she had written was read out to her fellow celebrities, in which she said: "My heart is broken, I have loved and enjoyed getting to know you all. You've held me up and it's been a pleasure being your friend through this experience. Leaving you all at this stage will be one of the saddest things in my life. I love you all."
I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV1.
