Dara O Briain's comedy gig cancelled due to flooding.
It was a night of disappointment for Irish comedian and former Mock The Week host Dara O Briain this week as he had to cancel a performance due to the venue being flooded.

The 51-year-old shared a video of the sound and lighting control room in the Corn Exchange in Bedford, which was completely submerged in water, on Twitter. O Briain had to make the announcement less than an hour before the show was due to start.

The comedian said there had been a sold out crowd for the stop on his So, Where Were We? tour. Staff at the Grade II-listed building wrote on Facebook that the show had been cancelled due to ‘extensive flooding of the venue’.

O Briain had been the host of Mock The Week for 17 years, until it was decommissioned last year. The half-hour panel programme featured two teams of comedians taking satirical swipes at current news, pop culture, and world events.

The Irish comedian jokingly said the ‘UK had finally run out of news’ when announcing the show’s end. He said: ‘The storylines were getting crazier and crazier – global pandemics, divorce from Europe, novelty short-term prime ministers. It couldn’t go on. And so, regretfully, we are closing the doors on Dara and Hugh’s Academy for Baby Comedians. We just couldn’t be more silly than the news was already.’

It's a shame that Dara had to cancel his gig due to the flooding, and it's even more of a shame that Mock The Week has come to an end. Let's hope we can see O Briain back on stage soon - in a venue that isn't flooded!
