Dad flew to Ibiza for a 24-hour party with £25 and clothes in an Asda bag.
Andy Armstrong, 63, set off on an unexpected adventure when he took a £25 Ryanair flight from Newcastle Airport at 5pm on August 21, carrying nothing but a change of clothes in an Asda carrier bag. He was determined to prove to his mates that he could go on a trip to Ibiza and rave the night away without staying in a hotel.

The North Sea oil rigs steelworker from Stockton-on-Tees, North Yorkshire, landed at 9pm and immediately made his way to the San Antonio resort for a pint before heading to the famous nightclub Pacha at midnight.

Andy described the atmosphere of the club as amazing, with great music and a show from different eras. After a few beers at £13 a bottle and a £23 gin and tonic, he soon found himself chatting to people from Germany, finding that there was a cross-section of different ages in the club. He noted that he never felt old or alone in Ibiza.

When the clock struck 6am, Andy left the club and walked three miles to the hotel Ushuaia for a much-needed nap on a sunbed. He then treated himself to 'The Unexpected Breakfast', described on the hotel’s menu as part of a world 'full of imagination, music, hedonism, freedom and fun'. The £50 breakfast included salmon, caviar, a chicken kebab, and fresh fruit, washed down with fresh orange juice, champagne, and lots of coffee.

By 1.30pm, Andy had to make his way to the airport to catch his £130 Jet2 flight back to the UK. The whole trip had cost around £300, and was all thanks to an idea that came to Andy when he was chatting with his mates. They had disputed the notion that he could go to Ibiza for a night out without booking a hotel, and so the challenge was on.

Andy had fallen in love with the party island back in 1981 when he was on a lad's holiday at the age of 21. He returned a few times later, with his wife and daughters, before his wife passed away five years ago. His eldest daughter Tiffany, 32, gave him the encouragement he needed to go back in July 2018, and they had a brilliant time seeing David Guetta. Andy eventually returned with his second daughter Ellie, 24, just two months later.

Since then, Andy has visited Ibiza four times this year, and his daughters think it's hilarious. Ellie even made a TikTok video of his adventure which was very successful. She believes that her dad is a legend and is so funny, and they try to visit Ibiza every year.

Andy loves the island and the people there, and he notes that there are a lot of people of a similar age to him who share his love of music and the island. He's 63 and still growing old disgracefully - something that his daughters are very proud of.
