Cuttack's AHPGIC acknowledges DM course.
In an exciting development for the medical community in Odisha, the National Medical Commission has given the green light to the proposal for a new Doctorate of Medicine course at the Department of Medical Oncology in Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer. This announcement was made by an official on Wednesday in Bhubaneswar.

According to the Health and Family Welfare department, the course will officially begin in the academic session of 2024-25 and is expected to greatly enhance the quality of medical education in the state. This is a major step towards progress and reflects the efforts being made to strengthen the healthcare system in Odisha.

Furthermore, the NMC has also approved the proposal to introduce postgraduate courses in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Department of Ophthalmology at the prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, as well as at the Capital Hospital. These courses will also commence from the academic year 2024-25, marking a significant milestone for the medical community in the state.

It is worth noting that the Regional Cancer Centre for Research and Treatment in SCB, Cuttack was declared an autonomous institution on April 24, 1984. It was then named Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre in honor of the renowned social worker Acharya Harihara, who was a devoted disciple of Acharya Vinoba Bhave, the founder of the Bhoodan movement.

This decision by the NMC is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the medical professionals in Odisha, who have tirelessly worked towards providing top-notch healthcare services to the people. It is a proud moment for the state and we can only hope that this is just the beginning of many more advancements in the field of medicine. ARINDAM GANGULY, OP
