Customer throws hot coffee at McDonald's manager over a penny dispute.
Elizar Ravelo, a 64-year-old regular at a McDonald's in Miami Springs, Florida, was arrested on Monday after surveillance footage showed him arguing with a store manager before allegedly slapping a cup of hot coffee out of her hands.

Shift manager Nayib Garcia said the minor altercation was over a mere penny, and was stunned when Ravelo splashed the manager, Stephanie Restuccia, with the hot beverage.

“I think it hit her in the face, and then on the rest of the arm,” said Garcia. “Most of the burn was on the arm.”

Restuccia told NBC6 that the hot beverage spilled on her right arm and chest and left red burns. She was shocked by Ravelo's behavior and said, “You never think that somebody’s gonna actually do it.”

A police report stated that Ravelo was outraged “over the amount he was being charged.” He turned himself in to police on Monday and was charged with felony battery. As of Tuesday morning, Ravelo was still being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with his bond set at $5,000.

The incident at the McDonald's in Florida happened less than a month before an elderly woman sued a McDonald's restaurant in San Francisco after a cup of hot coffee spilled on her groin and legs after a drive-thru employee allegedly did not secure the lid.
