Cop sent to hospital after trying to stop stolen vehicle.
This morning in Melbourne, a police officer was injured after being hit by a stolen car. The officer is currently in the hospital with serious injuries to his upper body. It all started when the police received reports of a stolen car in the car park of a hotel in Nunawading, near the intersection of Burwood Highway and Springvale Road, around 2:40 am.

According to sources, the stolen car was a white Honda Civic hatch that was taken from a property on Langley Street in Ringwood East. The officers quickly cordoned off the area and set up tyre deflation devices in an attempt to stop the car from fleeing. However, as luck would have it, a male suspect returned to the stolen car just as a senior constable was setting up one of the devices on the Springvale Road exit.

The suspect drove out of the carpark, striking the senior constable in the process. The 27-year-old officer was immediately taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, where he is currently receiving treatment. Meanwhile, the stolen car was later found abandoned on Tucker Road in Vermont. In order to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident, the police had to block off Springvale Road to traffic between Burwood Highway and Mullens Road.
