Conor Gallagher has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving Chelsea, despite being linked with a late move to Tottenham. After captaining Chelsea to a 2-1 victory in the second round of the Carabao Cup against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday evening, Gallagher spoke of his desire to help the club and to keep improving.
"It was a great moment tonight [captaining the team] and hopefully many more," he said. "Everyone's playing well, obviously a lot of top midfielders [have joined the club], but I'm just playing with quite a lot of confidence at the minute, I feel fit and strong. It's great to have a great squad that we have for this season, it's really important to help us win games. I'm happy with how it's going so far for myself, I want to keep improving and keep helping the team get more wins."
Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino also praised Gallagher for his solid start to the season in Chelsea's midfield.
"Conor is a great professional, his commitment with the club, with the team," Pochettino said. "I'm so happy for him because he's showing great character, great commitment, he's playing very well."
West Ham had their £40 million offer for Gallagher rejected by Chelsea earlier this summer, while Tottenham are now considering a bid for the England international in the final 48 hours of the summer transfer window. Chelsea is also closing in on a £45m deal to sign Cole Palmer from Manchester City, with the 21-year-old due to undergo a medical on Thursday.
