Cleaning of Soldiers’ Statues Across the City

Madikeri, Oct. 4: To uphold the dignity and sanctity of the statues erected in memory of the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation, the Field Marshal Cariappa and General Thimayya Foundation undertook a voluntary initiative to clean the statues of brave soldiers and the National Poet Kuvempu located across Madikeri city.

Since the last monsoon, the statues had accumulated moss and grime. Furthermore, garbage had piled up around the statues because floral garlands, loose flowers, and other waste materials were not cleared away after being respectfully offered by various organizations and members of the public.

Noticing this, office-bearers of the Foundation voluntarily—and without expecting anything in return—washed the statues with water and cleaned the surrounding areas. Just as it is important to pay tribute by offering garlands to the statues of brave soldiers, it is equally important to maintain their cleanliness and dignity by clearing away the floral waste after such events. The city administration and relevant organizations must pay continuous attention to ensure that the statues of these great individuals, who sacrificed their lives for the country, do not fall into a state of neglect. The foundation has stated that paying respect to statues should not be limited merely to garlanding them; everyone must also take responsibility for their cleanliness and preservation.
