Izzy Armstrong has been a part of the Coronation Street cast for over a decade now. This year, she made a permanent return to the cobbles and viewers have been seeing her interact with her Underworld colleagues.
The actress behind the character, Cherylee Houston, has teased an exciting new storyline for Izzy. She first made her debut on the show in 2021, when she was the focus of a storyline looking at how disabled people could get back to work during the pandemic.
Izzy, who has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome like Cherylee, began working from home with help from Carla and Sarah. While they tried to understand what Izzy was going through, they ultimately struggled to do so.
The character's most recent storyline revolved around the evil Stephen Reid, who was killed after Peter hit him with his car during Super Soap Week. Now, as the aftermath continues, Cherylee has hinted at what is to come for her character.
"I know there's some exciting things coming up but in a bit of time," she told Manchester Evening News. "I’m glad she got away without being killed by Stephen because she was quite rude to him at times and I every time I got the script I kept thinking, “Oh no, don’t be too rude to him. You never know!” But that was all fine.”
Reflecting on the 13 years she's been in the show, Cherylee added: “I love my work and I love my colleagues. I have such a great time. I’m forever learning and it’s such a supportive family. It’s really wonderful. I think Corrie was quite a game-changer in what they did by employing me and for how long they’ve employed me. They definitely started the ball rolling in television for others to go, “Oh, we should be doing that too!”
