Big Brother icon Chantelle Houghton has revealed that she is still haunted by the creepy comments made by Jimmy Savile when he visited the iconic Big Brother House in 2006. The former glamour model appeared on the series that year and won £25,000 after convincing the likes of Michael Barrymore and Pete Burns that she was actually famous.
Savile, who entered on Day 10 wearing his signature red tracksuit and glasses, had a task to ‘fix it’ in reference to his hit BBC show. He then made several inappropriate comments, taking Chantelle by the hand and kissing it twice. He also said that he would love her with ‘sincerity and tenderness’ and pledged to marry each woman in the house ‘for at least 24 hours’.
Chantelle has now reflected on the experience meeting Savile, saying it makes her ‘blood run cold’. In a new interview, the 40-year-old said: ‘Obviously back then, no one knew anything, so it was a bit of a “wow” moment, him coming in. It was Sir Jimmy Savile, wasn’t it? The excitement in the house, when he walked through, was just electric. He was this iconic guy, it was just exciting.’
Savile’s inappropriate comments didn’t stop there. He also said, ‘I always tell the truth even when I’m lying,’ and told actress Rula Lenska that she was ‘far prettier in the flesh’. When Chantelle said she needed an earring fixed, Savile replied: ‘My place or yours.’
Savile died aged 84 in 2011, just under a year before his numerous sexual crimes were exposed as part of Operation Yewtree – police spoke to hundreds of victims. Reflecting on the experience now, Chantelle said: ‘It was an absolute honour to meet him, he was funny and charming. But now, obviously we know what and who he really was, it literally makes my blood run cold. But it also makes my blood boil, because I wish I’d known what he was then and I really wish that he’d known that we’d all know who he was, before he died.’
She concluded to The Sun: ‘It’s just really creepy and I feel pretty disgusted that I’ve even been in his presence, that he’s kissed my hand and said them vile things to me. I think he’s a f*****g paedo pervert and I hope he rots in hell with those poor worms eating his eyes.’
