The teams will travel from Vancouver to St John's in the North American country

Race Across The World is returning with a bang, with the upcoming series of the BBC show featuring a group of aspiring adventurers attempting to traverse Canada.

The competition will once again follow five sets of companions and relatives as they battle their way through the North American nation but without the use of smartphones, internet access or credit cards.

Prohibited from taking flights, the teams usually end up working for transport and food, while searching for the most inexpensive accommodation possible.

The past series has challenged the teams to complete a journey through 16 countries in Central and South America and from London to Singapore.

Canada has presented its own unique difficulties, including bears, with each team having to carry special fences to keep the carnivorous mammals away.

Now, who are the five pairs taking a once-in-a-lifetime trip from Vancouver, British Columbia to St John's in Newfoundland and Labrador?

Let's meet the teams of Race Across The World season 3.

Cathie and Tricia

Tricia hopes to 'demonstrate to herself that with her sight loss she can still do things'

Cathie, 49, a manager of a local pharmacy, lives in South Wales and took part in the series after her friend Tricia, 48, suggested it.

She originally consented to be her friend's support but said further into the process it became about 'taking a break from being something to everyone' and having time to be 'selfish'.

'The timing is perfect for me. My children have both left home now and don't need me 24 hours a day anymore,' she added.

Bank clerk Tricia, from Devon, said she was attracted to the show 'to demonstrate to herself that with her sight loss she can still do things.'

She continued: 'I'm not "Sight Loss Tricia" - I'm Tricia with sight loss, because a lot of people do label you.'

Claudia and Kevin

Father-and-daughter pair Claudia and Kevin are hoping to make lasting memories

Claudia, 27, has joined forces with her dad Kevin, 53, who both live in Southampton, to take on Canada's wilderness.

The product developer and buyer said she was searching for 'an excuse to get closer to dad, spend some time together, and hopefully create some incredible memories.'

Marine canopy maker Kevin, who admits they have 'no strategy' for Race Across The World, said he was stunned to be chosen.

He added: 'At the time, it's an application form you fill out and you think there's maybe 14 million to 1 odds. You never think it will happen to you.'

Ladi and Monique

Father-and-daughter pair Ladi, 52, and Monique, 25, will be competing against the other Race Across The World teams, even though the latter admits the 'whole camping thing is not me.'
