Games Inbox: Discussing the best console graphics ever seen, the Rise of Kong debacle & the potential for Cities: Skylines 2.
I'm sure everyone is excited for the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 this Friday. Reviews have been more positive than I expected, given the lacklustre trailers from Sony. I'm particularly excited to see how they've handled Venom, as that is apparently a highlight, and to see the whole of New York City.

Graphics have been a concern at first, but it seems developers have really stepped up in the last few months of the game's development. I'm wondering if the game will be acknowledge as the best looking game on PlayStation 5 and all consoles? Time will tell, but I'm leaning towards Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart taking the prize. Still, it's a nice bonus if it does.

On the other hand, I'm confused about why Skull Island: Rise Of Kong exists. The movie makers can't be happy having their movies associated with such a terrible game. It's not like it'll make any money for them, so why would they want to poison the water with a tie-in?

I'm also disgusted with the publisher of Cities: Skylines 2, as they know it doesn't work but are releasing it anyway. It's clear that their priority is profit above all, and they know that releasing broken games doesn't usually cause a problem.

Finally, I'm a fan of Daytona USA 2 and was thrilled to hear it will be getting its first ever console release through Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. To my pleasant surprise, it will also be a day one Game Pass release on November 9th.

If you have played and enjoyed Heaven's Vault, then Chants Of Sennaar is worth a try. It's a streamlined version of the earlier title and I'm sure it will be my 2020 Game of the Year. That being said, the only thing that really lets it down are some forced stealth sections. I suggest downloading the demo and trying it for yourself. There's also a video by Mark Brown of GMTK that's worth a watch, but make sure you finish the demo first as it contains spoilers.
I'm sure a lot of people are excited for the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 this Friday. After some rather uninspiring trailers and the fact that this is the umpteenth Spidey game, it's nice that the reviews have been more positive than expected. One of the highlights that people are particularly excited to see is Venom, and of course the entire city of New York.

Speaking of the city, I'm sure a lot of people are interested in the graphics quality. At first, they didn't seem like much of an upgrade from the PlayStation 4, but it seems they've improved quite a bit in the last few months of development. After all that Puddlegate nonsense, I'm sure people are wondering if this will now be the best looking game on PlayStation 5. I'm personally of the opinion that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is currently the best, but since it's also an Insomniac game, there's a good chance that Spider-Man 2 will take the prize.

On a completely different note, I'm absolutely baffled by the release of Skull Island: Rise Of Kong. It looks like one of the worst games ever made and I can't understand why the movie makers are okay with it being associated with their movie. There's another Kong movie coming out next year, so why would you want to associate it with this terrible game that won't make any money?

Finally, I have no interest in Cities: Skylines 2 but I'm disgusted that the publisher knows it doesn't work yet is going to release it anyway. That seems to be the priority for publishers, profit above all. This is more true for gaming PC's, where games often suffer from launch day problems and those problems aren't fixed for months or even at all.

Anyway, I'm off to play Forza Motorsport. If you're looking for something new, you should definitely try Chants Of Sennaar. It's heavily inspired by Heaven's Vault, which was my 2019 Game Of The Year. The puzzle design is excellent and the only thing that's wrong with it is a few forced stealth sections. It's a short game, and you should really go in blind, but there's a demo available on all systems so you can try it for yourself.
