Calcutta High Court asks NTA for reply regarding PIL claiming misconduct in NEET (UG) 2024 test.
The Calcutta High Court has recently made a decision regarding the NEET 2024 examination. In response to a Public Interest Litigation, the court has ordered the National Testing Agency to submit an affidavit within 10 days. The PIL alleged that there were several irregularities in the NEET 2024 exam. The division bench, led by Justice Apurba Sinha Ray, has also requested the NTA to disclose how they followed the reservation policies set by both the State and Central Government while preparing the merit list.

During the hearing, the bench, which also included Justice Kausik Chanda, took note of the fact that some candidates may not have scored 718 or 719 marks as per the applicable marking system. The court has postponed the hearing for two weeks and has instructed the NTA to keep all records related to the NEET 2024 exam until further notice.

Advocate Tanmoy Chattopadhyay, in his personal capacity, filed the PIL stating that there were "glaring discrepancies" in the NEET results published on June 4. The plea further mentioned that the students' community is at risk of being deprived of their rightful admission due to these irregularities. The NTA, in an attempt to justify these illegalities, gave grace marks to certain candidates who had faced disruptions during the exam. However, this decision was based on a 2013 judgment of the Supreme Court, which has no relevance to the current case as it pertained to CLAT 2018.

In its order, the High Court stated that the NTA's justification for the grace marks cannot be accepted without an affidavit from the agency. Therefore, the court has asked the NTA to submit the affidavit within 10 days. This decision will hopefully bring clarity and transparency to the NEET 2024 examination process and ensure that deserving candidates get their rightful admissions.
