Every Christmas Day, Bobby Brazier and his family remember his late mum, Jade Goody, in a beautiful way. Jeff Brazier, Goody's ex-partner and father of Bobby and his brother Freddie, recently opened up about how the family keeps her memory alive.
Goody passed away aged 27 in 2009 due to cervical cancer. She and Jeff had split five years prior, but he remembers her fondly and wants to make sure her memory stays alive, especially around the festive season. “She was the best at Christmas,” Jeff told The Mirror. He recalled how she went to great lengths to make it a special day for the family.
When Jeff was 30, he realised it would be unwise to try and replicate the same Christmas traditions they had with Goody. Instead, he decided to dedicate the morning to her memory. “We would often go to a beach and just reflect,” he said. “When you make the morning about mum, it gives you permission to enjoy the rest of the day and helps you recognise what’s missing.”
This year, the family-of-three will find a spot of “beautiful coastline” and go for a dip, somewhere near where they will have Christmas dinner. Bobby has recently opened up about his experience of losing his mum on Strictly Come Dancing with Dianne Buswell, and due to this interest in Goody has spiked again.
When Jeff watched his son on the Strictly stage, he was emotional. “To say it was emotional would be an understatement,” he told The Agency. “It was really brave of him to share his loss with the nation effectively.” He added that Goody would have been proud of her son’s performance. Bobby also shared that Goody would be proud of him “not necessarily for Strictly, but for everything.” He remembers her through other people’s memories.
At Christmas, the Brazier family continue to keep Jade Goody’s memory alive. It is clear that Jeff and Bobby both feel proud at being able to pay tribute to her in such a special way.
