BMC enforces action against illegal posters/banners for Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 with ward officers and complaint hotlines.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appointed a ward-wise designated officer in 24 administrative wards to take action against illegal posters, banners, pandals and even on complaints of noise pollution. To ensure that the citizens can register their complaints with ease, the BMC has also started a toll free number and a WhatsApp number.

It is important to note that posters and banners have been defacing the city, especially during festivals. To address this issue, BMC began a drive on September 1, to maintain the cleanliness along the roads. Till now, more than 10,000 illegal posters, banners and flags of political parties have been pulled out.

However, as the Ganeshotsav starts from Tuesday, the number of illegal posters and banners have doubled in several places. To ensure that the citizens can report any such illegal activity, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Zone 2, Ramakant Biradar, has requested the citizens to lodge their complaints on the toll free number or WhatsApp number.

The BMC, annually, removes 15,000 to 20,000 posters and banners. Of these, 45% are either for festivities or to convey birthday wishes to a political leader. The permissible noise levels in residential areas is 55dB from 6am-10pm and 45dB from 10pm-6am. Moreover, the BMC denies permission to pandals on roads and footpaths that may affect vehicular traffic and free movement of pedestrians.

Hence, this Ganesh Chaturthi, let us celebrate the festival in the right way and ensure that we maintain a clean environment. To register your complaints or to get more information, visit http://portal.mcgm.gov.in. The toll free number to lodge complaints is 1800223467, and the MTNL landline/mobile numbers are 1292 and 1293, respectively. The citizens can also reach out to the BMC on the SMS/WhatsApp number 9920760525.
