The BLK Dating App is excited to join in the celebration of Pride Month with their new campaign that aims to bring to light the incredible stories and events within the Black LGBTQ+ community. As the world's largest dating and lifestyle app for the Black community, BLK has launched their newest campaign, titled "It's Giving Space: Celebrating Queer Event Curators". This initiative focuses on highlighting the unique and powerful narratives of three LGBTQ+ party collectives - Party Noire in Chicago, Global Warming in Brooklyn, and Lesbians in Houston.
BLK has partnered with Sesali Bowen, a well-known author, podcast host, and member of the BLK Advocacy Council, to bring this campaign to life. Through engaging content, social media, and real-life events, the initiative aims to celebrate the diverse and authentic expressions of being Black, Proud, and Queer. It is a response to the lack of representation that the Black Queer community often faces in mainstream Pride celebrations, despite being a significant part of the overall LGBTQ+ community.
Jonathan Kirkland, the Head of Brand and Marketing for BLK, expressed the app's dedication to uncovering and celebrating the untold stories within the Black LGBTQ+ community. In a press release, he stated, "At BLK, we are dedicated to uncovering and celebrating the untold stories within the Black LGBTQ+ community." As part of the campaign, BLK will sponsor the Pride events of Party Noire in Chicago, Global Warming in Brooklyn, and Lesbians in Houston, creating safe spaces for celebration and connection within the Black LGBTQ+ community.
Each event will also feature the premiere of a video from BLK's Pride Month content series, showcasing the unique journeys and contributions of these party collectives. These videos will highlight the inspiring stories of LGBTQ+ community leaders, providing a deeper insight into their impact and dedication. Throughout the month of June, BLK will share these videos on their social media platforms, giving a glimpse into the incredible work of these collectives.
Party Noire, founded by Nick and Rae, is an inclusive cultural hub that celebrates Black femmes, Queer Women of Color, and Black womanhood across the gender spectrum. They have a particular focus on queer, trans, and genderqueer Black individuals, creating intentional spaces for them to be celebrated and uplifted through vibrant events and community-building activities.
Global Warming in Brooklyn, co-created by DJs Adair and Boston Chery, is dedicated to uplifting and centering Black and Brown queer and trans individuals. They provide spaces for these individuals to dance, celebrate, and experience joy while creating intentional and safe environments that unite the community.
Similarly, Lesbians in Houston is dedicated to creating safe and inclusive spaces for queer women in a traditionally conservative state. This collective specializes in hosting some of the hottest nightlife events and parties for lesbians living in or visiting Houston.
Kirkland further emphasized the importance of shedding light on these subcultures and vibrant narratives through their campaign, "It's Giving Space". He stated, "With "It's Giving Space," we aim to shed light on the rich subcultures and vibrant narratives that often go unnoticed." These community leaders play a pivotal role in shaping our cultural landscape, and their stories of resilience and creativity deserve to be heard. BLK is proud to support and amplify their voices, highlighting their invaluable contributions to both the Black and LGBTQ+ communities.
