Amber Corbett from New York has made history, becoming the first ever Black woman to represent the United States at the Miss Intercontinental pageant. The 23-year-old was crowned on July 22nd by Katherine McQuade, the United States of America’s Miss 2023.
Reflecting on her achievement, Corbett said: "Winning Miss Intercontinental USA felt like I was breaking a glass ceiling in itself because, in 51 years, there’s never been a Black Miss Intercontinental USA.”
As Miss Intercontinental USA, Corbett will use her platform to continue promoting diversity and representation in the media. She is currently working on a safe space for women of color to do networking, as well as her support resource “She’s Represented”.
Corbett additionally plans to serve as a goodwill ambassador for the Miss Intercontinental Organization, focusing on societal issues such as drug abuse, poverty eradication, gender equality, health, nutrition, and environmental conservation.
The Brooklyn resident graduated from Pace University last May with a bachelor's degree in business administration in advertising and integrated marketing communication, as well as a minor in digital marketing.
Corbett was introduced to pageants at the age of 11, and since then has accumulated several titles, such as Miss Galaxy NY 2021, Miss Earth NY Teen 2015, Miss United States NY Jr Teen 2015, and IJM Junior Teen 2015.
The Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant will be held in October 2023, with the winner receiving the title of “POWER OF BEAUTY”. Corbett is now preparing for the event, and is looking forward to making history again.
