Black residents of small AL town seek answers as rising bills & problems threaten their homes.
Residents of Alabama Village, a town of 19,000 people, are demanding the dissolution of the local water and sewage board. This is due to the growing concerns over enormous bills, old pipes, low-system pressure, and outdated water meters.

Severia Campbell Morris, an Alabama Village resident, said that receiving the water bill is a fear-inducing experience. She mentioned that the bill is rarely ever under $58 and sometimes, can even reach up to $5,000. She said that it is sad that the city is run by the residents but they don't take care of each other.

Capital B News further reported that the residents are requesting for their services to be shifted to the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System, from where Prichard Water Works and Sewer Board's water supply originates. A judge is expected to make a decision in this regard on October 10.

The area is not only facing water-related issues but also other infrastructure issues. It has been used as a trash dump by nearby cities, and this has led to an increase in crime due to abandoned homes and overgrown weeds and bushes. Angela Robinson Adams, another resident of Alabama Village, said that people throw away whatever they want in the area. To tackle this issue, the residents have hired professionals to help them with the pipes that are connected to their individual properties and are long ignored by the city of Chickasaw.

Due to all these issues, some residents of Alabama Village have received bills as high as $7,500. It is essential that the people of the town are provided with basic necessities and infrastructure to make sure that their lives are not put in danger.
