BJP & Congress both striving to reach out to first-time voters ahead of elections.
The Congress party and BJP are vying for the attention of 22.36 lakh first-time voters in Bhopal ahead of the upcoming polls. The parties are running specific programmes to reach out to them and demonstrate why they should support their respective candidates.

The BJP is claiming that 8 lakh of these first-time voters have already joined the party due to their influence by the party's ideology and policies. State Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha president Vaibhav Pawar revealed that they began contacting first-time voters in April by holding Yuva Chaupals in village panchayats. He said that out of the total 23,000 panchayats, chaupals were organised in 15,180 and 6.71 lakh first-time voters were drawn to the party fold.

The BJP then went on to hold New Voter Convention programmes in 355 mandals, which helped to draw 1.22 lakh more first-time voters to the party. Pawar said that their programmes were still ongoing.

The Congress party is also making an effort to attract the first-time voters. The National Students Union of India (NSUI) has been holding programmes in colleges and universities to contact them and explain the values and contributions of the Congress party. State NSUI president Ashutosh Chauksey said that they had contacted 12 lakh youths and informed them how the BJP government had ‘cheated’ them through various scams. He stated that the youths were being told that Kamal Nath alone could pave the way for their bright future.

Meanwhile, the BSP and AAP have no specific programmes to attract the first-time voters. They are instead contacting voters of all age groups. An AAP spokesman, Atul Sharma, said that their partymen were going door-to-door to reach out to the masses and inform them that the AAP is the third option which Madhya Pradesh politics had lacked earlier.

With the election season in full swing, the police in Bhopal are also keeping tabs on 2.8K listed criminals in order to ensure a peaceful and safe election process.
