The Bihar Police's Economic Offences Unit (EOU) is currently investigating allegations of a paper leak in the National Eligibility-cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2024. On Saturday, the EOU sent notices to 11 candidates who were suspected of being involved in the crime. These notices were issued after their names and roll codes were discovered in the possession of exam mafias. Interestingly, seven out of the 11 candidates are girls from different districts of Bihar.
Initially, the National Testing Agency (NTA) had denied any irregularities in NEET 2024. However, they have now provided the details of the 11 candidates to the Bihar EOU. The EOU had previously arrested 13 people, including six exam mafias, four candidates, and three parents, and sent them to jail. Acting on information provided by the arrested individuals, the EOU found partially burnt question papers in Learn Play School, which falls under the jurisdiction of Ramakrishna Nagar police station in Patna. These papers were found in booklet number 6136488, and their contents were identical to those of the NEET 2024 paper.
The EOU had requested the original copy of booklet number 6136488 from the NTA about a month ago, but despite sending three reminders, they have not received it yet. According to the statements given by the arrested candidates, they had received the question paper on May 4, a day before the examination, and it was the same paper that was used in the actual exam. The NEET results were supposed to be announced on June 14, but they were surprisingly released on June 4 instead. What's even more surprising is that 67 candidates scored a perfect 100%, and thousands of students scored more than 700 marks. Out of the 24 lakh candidates who appeared for the exam, over 13 lakh passed it.
In a twist, it was revealed that grace marks were randomly given to 1,563 students, even though the exam notification did not mention anything about it. The NTA has now stated in court that these grace marks will be cancelled, and the students will have to take the exam again on June 23. However, the petitioner is not satisfied with just the cancellation of the grace marks and is seeking further action. This case has caused much uproar and raised questions about the fairness of the NEET exam.
