Bhopal implements helmet laws, but drivers continue to ignore speed limits.
The local traffic police department in Bhopal has recently launched a road safety campaign that will run from September 8 to 22. The main goal of this initiative is to decrease the number of accident-related deaths and improve overall road safety in the city. During the first nine days of the campaign, the focus was on enforcing traffic laws regarding helmet and seat belt usage. It was observed that many riders were not wearing helmets and drivers were neglecting to wear their seat belts, which can often lead to fatal injuries in case of an accident.

However, it has come to light that while enforcing these laws, the traffic police have been neglecting another major cause of accidents - overspeeding. Recent cases have shown that this issue has not received the attention it deserves. As a result, only 48 cases of overspeeding were recorded during the same period, while 1,370 challans were issued for helmet violations and 261 for seat belt non-compliance.

During a recent visit to Dhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of prioritizing one's health and urged women to undergo free medical tests and treatment under the 'Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar' initiative. This is a reminder to all citizens that our health should be of utmost importance to us, even more than the funds in the government's treasury.

Despite the ongoing campaign, there were still 26 accidents reported across various police station areas within just four days. These accidents were mostly caused by a combination of overspeeding and reckless driving. Areas such as Piplani, Kolar, Kamla Nagar, Misrod, Govindpura, Kotwali, Koh-e-Fiza, MP Nagar, Khajuri Sadak, and Mangalwara were affected, resulting in multiple injuries. In response, FIRs have been registered against vehicle owners, including those driving cars, bikes, trucks, dumpers, and buses.

According to ACP Ajay Vajpai, the main focus of this campaign remains on reducing road accidents. Strict action is being taken against all violations, including overspeeding. It is crucial for all drivers and riders to wear helmets and seat belts, as it can significantly decrease the chances of fatalities during accidents.

Here is a report of the actions taken so far:
- Overspeeding: 48
- Helmet violations: 1,370

- Riding by minors: 3
- Drunk driving: 8
- Wrong side driving: 78
