Celebrity Gogglebox star and Happy Mondays dancer Mark Berry, aka Bez, had a close call back in February this year. The 59-year-old media personality was with a group of professional riders when he lost control of his motorbike and ended up off the road, suffering from broken bones, ligaments, and a broken foot.
The accident happened near the mountains in Magaluf, the famous party region of the Spanish island Majorca. Bez admitted that he is still “not quite right” four months on, saying: “We were off-road in the mountains near Magaluf – it was literally on the way home. I lost the front end and had a really bad accident. I broke bones. I broke my foot and did all my ligaments in. I’m just recovered. It still hurts a bit and it’s not quite right, but it’s getting more and more easier.”
Despite the scary incident, Bez is determined to keep riding as it takes his mind off things. He said: “I’ll never give it up, because I get so much pleasure out of it. My last accident was three years ago, and if I can go another three without injury, I’ll be happy.”
Bez is also known for his appearance on Dancing On Ice in 2021 and his famous maraca work on stage with the Happy Mondays. The star was dragged on stage by his school friend Shaun Ryder in 1980 to become part of the band and is currently touring with supergroup Mantra Of The Cosmos - which also includes Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder, Oasis bassist Andy Bell and Zak Starkey, drummer of The Who.
Bez is still recovering from his accident but is thankful to be alive. He has also made appearances on Celebrity Gogglebox, and is sure to be back on our screens soon.
