Virajpet, Nov. 9: The 12th annual Kodava Namme program, which has been going on for the past four days at the Kodava Cultural and Sports Complex in Balugod, was inaugurated with a grand ceremony.

The four-day event included hockey matches, tug-of-war, shot put, women's hockey, coconut shooting competitions among inter-Kodava societies, a tribute to the martyrs at the war memorial in the premises, and a competition for Kodava folk art performances among inter-Kodava societies.

On Sunday, which was the final day, cultural competitions attracted attention throughout the day. Art teams from 16 Kodava societies participated in the competition in 8 categories. Along with this, the final match of the sports was also held today in an exciting manner and this time's Kodava Namme program opened with glory.

In the finals of the hockey tournament held over the past four days, Ponnampete Kodava society defeated Arairanad Kodava society 3-2 in a tiebreaker and won the trophy. Arairanad Kodava society had to settle for second place. As both teams emphasized defensive play, no goals were scored in the stipulated time, the organizers implemented the tiebreaker rule. In the tiebreaker, the Ponnampete team won the trophy and cash prize by scoring three goals. Bachamanda Chingappa, AnjaparavadA Chirag, MandechadA Manjunath scored for Ponnampet team, Kuppanda Gaurav, Kechanda Devaiah scored for Arairanadu team. Bollachanda Nanaiah, Chaiyanda Appachchu were the referees, Bottamgad Kaushik, Kuppanda Dilan were the technical committee members, and Kannambira Chinnappa was the technical director.

In the final of the women's Fisers Hockey tournament, Virajpet Kodava Society defeated Mysore Kodava Society by 2-1 in a tiebreaker. The tiebreaker rule was applied as no goal was scored in the stipulated period. In the tiebreaker, Virajpet team's Napanda Soumya and Kechetira Parvathy scored the goals, while Makeri's Shaina Thangamma scored the goal for Mysore team. Chaiyyanda Appachchu and Bottamgad Kaushik acted as the judges.

Rope-jumping - Ammatthi - Napoklu Kodava Samajs win

In the men's rope-jumping finals held after the hockey tournament, Ammatthi Kodava Samaj team defeated Moornadu Kodava Samaj team. In the women's rope-jumping, Napoklu Kodava Samaj team defeated T. Shettigeri Tavalageri Kodava Samaj team and won the trophy.

Mookonda Subbaiah of Ammatti Kodava Samaj (PR), Ajjetira Somayya of Napoklu Kodava Samaj (Second), Ajjetira Gautham of Napoklu Kodava Samaj (Third), Dechamma Kalappa of Veerajpet Kodava Samaj (PR), Thachamanda Veena of Somwarpet Kodava Samaj and Shipra Kalappa of Beppuna Kodava Samaj got the position in the men's category.
