Arushi Sharma wants to collaborate with directors who recognize female talent, not just use women as props.
Actress Arushi Sharma recently left the audience in awe of her stellar performance in the web series Kaala Paani. As Jyotsana, Arushi has won widespread praise and acclaim for her portrayal of the character. The Free Press Journal caught up with the actress for an exclusive interview.

Talking about her overall experience of working on the survival thriller, Arushi shares, "Kaala Paani was a really special project for me. It was a wonderful experience with lots of adventure. I had a lot of fun on the sets and I will never forget it. I was actually waiting for something like this to come my way. The writing of the series was extraordinary and I was delighted with the character arc of Jyotsana. I had a lot to explore as an actor."

Arushi opened up about her preparation for the role, saying, "I wanted to look different from how I usually appear. So, I decided to gain some weight and I ended up gaining around five to six kilos. Additionally, I also took an acting workshop to help me connect better with my emotions. My character had a lot of emotional weight and I wanted to make sure I could do justice to it."

The actress also spoke about how she overcame her emotions after shooting several intense scenes of the web series. She said, "I had already set myself to give my all, emotionally and physically, to this character. I was ready to do as many retakes as required. I wanted to make sure I had brought out everything for her. When you stay with the character for so long, it becomes a part of you and I wanted to make sure she was free from all the emotional baggage she was carrying."

The actress also reminisced about her experience in the exotic and untouched beauty of Andaman. She said, "I'm so glad I got the chance to visit Andaman because of Kaala Paani. Everyone should go there at least once and experience its beauty. The weather conditions were not always ideal as it rained heavily there and we were even hit by a cyclone. Even the dense jungles of Andaman can be quite scary as you can encounter a lot of animals on the way. Despite all this, I miss everything about that place."

Arushi concluded the interview by expressing her hope for the future. She said, "I'd like to think Kaala Paani is a turning point for me. I waited for this opportunity for a long time and I hope my hard work doesn't go unnoticed. From now on, I hope I get more chances to prove myself as an actor. I want to work with makers who think women are not just window dressing but have a story and a voice of their own. The takeaway from Kaala Paani for me would be to never be afraid of taking up challenges in life and taking the road less travelled. It might be tough but it will make you proud of the person you have become."
