Approval was granted for the construction of a flyover at Khurda Road station by the railways.
The officials of East Coast Railways announced on Monday that, in an effort to improve the efficiency and capacity of train operations at Khurda Road station, the Ministry of Railways, led by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, has given the go-ahead for the construction of a flyover. This development will greatly benefit the Howrah-Chennai Main Line and Khurda Road-Puri Branch Line, making train movements smoother and more streamlined. The estimated cost for the project is Rs 191.87 crore and it will cover a distance of 7.41km.

According to ECoR officials, the new flyover will specifically aid in the smooth movement of passenger-carrying trains in the direction of Bhubaneswar, starting from Puri. This project will also be a part of the Energy Corridor initiative of Indian Railways, showcasing their commitment towards sustainable and efficient infrastructure development. The officials also added that the flyover will eliminate any delays caused by cross-movements, thus improving the overall speed and operational efficiency of trains in the Bhubaneswar-Brahmapur and Khurda Road-Puri Rail Sections.

At present, whenever a train arrives from Puri and needs to proceed towards Bhubaneswar, it has to make a surface crossing at Khurda Road Junction. This limitation prevents the simultaneous movement of trains from Khurda towards Palasa and from Puri towards Bhubaneswar at Khurda station. However, with the construction of the new flyover, trains coming from Puri and heading towards the south can now move simultaneously. This will greatly enhance the flow of train traffic and reduce any potential delays, ensuring a more efficient and seamless travel experience for passengers.
