Fans of the film industry have recently been speculating about the possibility of a new Cloverfield movie, starring the talented Anne Hathaway. This new addition to the franchise, titled The End of Oak Street, is produced by the mastermind behind Bad Robot, JJ Abrams, and directed by David Robert Mitchell. The story follows a family who must navigate a dangerous new world after their neighborhood is suddenly transported to a mysterious location during a cosmic event.
Hathaway plays Denise, the mother of the family, while Ewan McGregor portrays her husband Greg. Together, they must band together to face perilous cosmic phenomena and even dinosaurs. The trailer for The End of Oak Street begins with Hathaway's character solemnly stating, "Our house, our neighborhood, our whole street has moved." But that's not all that has caught the attention of fans.
Many are convinced that there is a bigger secret hidden within the film. With Abrams' production company also behind the successful Cloverfield franchise, some believe that this new movie may actually be a part of it. One fan on X writes, "I'll be shocked if this isn't part of the Cloverfield world," while another says they are "99% sold" on the theory.
Some are even begging for it to be true, promising to "lose their mind" if it is revealed to be a Cloverfield movie. There are a few reasons why fans believe The End of Oak Street may be connected to the Cloverfield universe. Firstly, the events of The Cloverfield Paradox in 2018 involved a particle accelerator causing city blocks to disappear in a similar manner to what happens on Oak Street.
Additionally, the family in the film shares the same last name as a character from the first Cloverfield movie. However, there is one major hurdle to this theory - the film is being released by Warner Brothers, while Paramount Pictures distributed the previous Cloverfield films. This means that any connection would have to be unofficial, unless the two production companies made a deal.
But this wouldn't be the first time that Abrams has surprised fans with a secret Cloverfield film. In 2016, it was revealed that a movie known as "The God Particle" was actually a Cloverfield sequel, retitled The Cloverfield Paradox. This film was released on Netflix, which sparked speculation about the next potential surprise.
However, the Abrams-produced film Overlord, released in 2018, turned out to be just that - its own standalone movie. When asked about the fan theories, Abrams promised that a "true, dedicated" Cloverfield sequel would eventually be released. He also hinted that the fourth installment in the franchise would be a theatrical release, unlike The Cloverfield Paradox which premiered on Netflix.
Until then, fans will have to wait for The End of Oak Street, which is set to hit UK cinemas on August 14, 2026. Do you have a celebrity story or insider knowledge? We'd love to hear from you!
