This week, fans of EastEnders were in for a treat as they were greeted with the return of beloved characters Garry Hobbs and Minty Peterson, played by Ricky Groves and Cliff Parisi respectively. And let me tell you, it was an absolute delight to see these two best mates back in action on the show.
In an interview, Ricky Groves shared his thoughts on reprising his role as Garry and how it felt to be back on set after all these years. He and Cliff Parisi returned to Walford to attend Billy Mitchell and Honey's sten do, and it's safe to say that everyone in the pub was overjoyed to see them.
Although their characters only made a brief appearance for the party, fans were able to catch a glimpse of what Garry and Minty have been up to since leaving the show. We found out that Minty is now happily married, while Garry is living in his attic and working as a bingo caller. It was truly heartwarming to see these two old friends again, and for Ricky Groves, he wished he could have stayed longer.
Reflecting on his day of filming, Ricky said, "It was an absolute privilege. It was a lovely day." He also mentioned that it felt weird to be back after fourteen years, but it was great to reunite with his old buddies and meet some of the newer cast members. He even joked about Garry living in Minty's spare room, saying that they were always a double act towards the end of their time on the show.
Talking about working with Cliff Parisi again, Ricky said, "We still keep in touch and it came very naturally. We worked together for such a long time, so it's kind of like putting on a pair of old shoes." Cliff added, "Ricky is great fun and he really made me laugh on the day that we were filming. He just has these faces that he pulls as his character is always in shock about something and it really makes me laugh. It was lovely to work with him again."
Cliff also mentioned that it felt like going home to work with his old friends and familiar faces on set. He said, "It was a bit like being away for a very, very long time and living abroad and then coming back and going into your local pub." He also couldn't help but compare it to going back to an old house and seeing the furniture moved around a bit.
And for fans who are dying to know what's in store for their favorite characters, Cliff teased, "It was pretty much the same." He also shared his excitement about working with director Jamie Annett, whom he has worked with in the past. "He is really playful and if you have got ideas, he will listen to them and will try to get them in so, it was great!"
