An 18-year-old British person who disappeared near Dracula's castle has been found deceased.

George Smyth, an 18-year-old geology student from Bristol, embarked on a solo hike towards the charming village of Bran last November. This village, nestled in the rural countryside of Romania, is famous for its rumored association with the legendary Dracula. However, what started as an exciting adventure soon turned into a tragic incident.

Despite his passion for hiking and love for nature, George disappeared without a trace during his journey. After he reached out to emergency services, expressing exhaustion and symptoms of hypothermia, a large-scale search operation was launched in the Bucegi Mountain region where he was last seen. Sadly, on Saturday, the authorities confirmed that a body found in the area is believed to be that of George Smyth.

The news devastated his family, who have been informed and are receiving support from a family liaison officer. George's family released a statement through the police, expressing their profound grief and remembering him as "the best of us." They also expressed their gratitude to the Salvamont Mountain Rescue team for their tireless efforts in searching for George, despite the challenging and perilous conditions. The family also thanked the Avon and Somerset Police and the University of Bristol for their exceptional support in trying to locate George.

Although the news of George's death is heartbreaking, his family finds solace in the fact that the agonizing wait is finally over, and they can now focus on bringing him home and saying their final goodbyes. They have requested privacy as they come to terms with their loss. Efforts are being made to return George's body to his hometown of Bristol, once formal identification has been completed.

It is a tragic end to a young life that held so much promise and adventure. George's dream of visiting the village of Bran, famous for its association with Dracula's Castle, will remain unfulfilled. However, his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and friends.
