Amy Dowden will dance on Strictly this year despite her cancer battle, giving fans reassurance.
Amy Dowden has vowed to make her return to Strictly Come Dancing this year despite her ongoing battle with breast cancer. The 32-year-old professional ballroom dancer was preparing to go on her honeymoon with her new husband, Ben Jones, when she noticed something was wrong and attended a check up in April.

Amy subsequently underwent a single mastectomy and is currently awaiting results on her condition. She may need radiotherapy or a combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy to rid her of the cancer. In a recent interview with The Mirror, Amy shared her determination to make it back on the dance floor in time for the show.

“If I only have radiotherapy I'll be back on Strictly this season. Once radiotherapy is done there’ll be nothing to stop me, there’s no pressure but Strictly is leaving the door open. It’s having something to work towards,” she said. “I’m visualizing myself on that Strictly dance floor. Just being back in the ballroom with the live audience, the adrenaline and the atmosphere. And the support from the whole Strictly family.”

Amy is no stranger to overcoming challenges on the dance floor. Last year, she choreographed routines with one arm in her pocket for her partner, JJ Chalmers, who was injured during an explosion in Afghanistan while part of the Royal Marines.

Sharing her diagnosis on her Instagram account in May, Amy wrote: “Hey all, I’ve got some news which isn’t easy to share. I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I’m determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it. Welsh love Amy.”

The Strictly star recently posted an update from her hospital bed last week showing her giving a thumbs up and reassuring her followers that she is ready for the fight.

It’s clear that Amy is determined to make her return to the popular BBC One show, and we wish her all the best in her recovery.
