Amit Shah says only the central government has the power to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, dismissing the possibility of autonomy.
Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a rally at Ploura in Jammu North assembly segment and spoke about the upcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. He dismissed the opposition's attempt to revive the autonomy plank and urged the NC-Congress alliance to stop making false promises of statehood restoration. According to Shah, only the Centre has the power to restore the state's status and it will happen after the assembly election.

Shah assured the people that the statehood would be restored after the polls. He emphasized that this will be the first election under the national flag and Constitution since the abrogation of Article 370 by the Narendra Modi government. He also urged the people of Jammu to make an informed decision and vote for a government that will work for their betterment, rather than being misled by false promises.

The BJP leader also criticized the Congress-National Conference alliance for trying to revive the "old system" and pushing Jammu and Kashmir back into the fire of terrorism and corruption. He declared that the time when someone else decided whose government will be formed is long gone and now it is the people of Jammu who will decide the formation of government.

On the other hand, the NC and Congress claimed that the BJP is trying to create confusion and fear among the voters as they are in a state of panic since the two parties announced a seat-sharing arrangement. They also stated that the 10-year rule of BJP in the country has been a disappointment.

Shah was in Jammu for a two-day visit to boost the BJP's election campaign. He released the party's manifesto and held meetings with senior leaders to strategize for the campaign. He acknowledged the historic nature of the upcoming elections as it will be the first time after Independence that polls will be conducted under one national flag and Constitution.

He also paid tribute to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Pandit Prem Nath Dogra and Baba Daleep Singh Manhas, and extended greetings to the nation on Ganesh Chaturthi and the Jain community on Paryushana Parva. He introduced the BJP's candidates from 11 seats in Jammu districts and urged the people to not only defeat their opponents but also ensure that they lose their security deposits.

Shah highlighted the success of democracy in the Lok Sabha elections where 58.46% of voters exercised their franchise, unlike in the past when only 10% of voting was celebrated by previous governments in Delhi. He also reiterated that there will be no talks with Pakistan until terrorism ends and peace is restored.

Responding to the opposition's promise of statehood restoration, Shah questioned Farooq Abdullah and Rahul Gandhi on who will restore the statehood and accused them of misleading the public. He clarified that the central government, specifically the BJP, has already promised to restore statehood at an appropriate time after the assembly elections, and the opposition should refer to his speech on August 5 and 6 for more details.

Shah also criticized the NC for their promise of releasing stone-pelters and terrorists from jail, stating that their aim is to revive terrorism in the peaceful regions of Jammu. He credited the BJP-led government for bringing down terror incidents in the Union territory by 70% and declared that the NDA government will not allow the revival of terrorism, autonomy, or injustice towards any community.

Referring to the NC's promise of implementing the autonomy resolution, Shah stated that no power can talk about autonomy when more than 40,000 lives have been lost to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. He also reminded the people that in 2000, the National Conference government under Farooq Abdullah passed a resolution in the Assembly seeking to restore the pre-1953 constitutional position, which was rejected by the Union Cabinet headed by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Shah concluded his speech by urging the people of Jammu to make an informed decision and not vote for those who insulted Maharaja Hari Singh and forced him into exile. He also reminded the youth of Kashmir that the NC and Congress are responsible for the previous governments' failures and urged them not to vote for them as their agenda will bring back terrorism and hinder development in the region. He also highlighted the Modi government's efforts in developing the Jammu region and credited them for the successful Amarnath Yatra, where over 5.12 lakh pilgrims offered prayers without any fear.
