As soon as Nicola walked into the room, she could sense something was wrong. Her daughter, Amelia, was in tears and Tom King was standing there looking guilty. Tom had a lot of explaining to do. He had been under investigation for abusing and controlling his wife, Belle Dingle, throughout their entire marriage. Nicola knew this all too well, as she had experienced it firsthand when Tom had terrorized her son, Carl. This had caused her to move out of Victoria Cottage and away from Tom. Despite this, Tom's brother Jimmy had stood by him, causing tension between Jimmy and Nicola. Nicola was convinced that Tom was a controlling abuser and needed to be removed from their lives.
Earlier that week, Nicola had somewhat relented after learning that Jimmy had been attacked by Cain Dingle. She had moved back home, but her feelings towards Tom had not changed. Tom, on the other hand, was hopeful that he could win Nicola over. However, on Friday's episode, it became clear that this was not the case. Tom was once again frustrated by his inability to manipulate Nicola.
