As the holiday season approaches, the supermarket has ignited a heated debate by introducing a new twist on a traditional Christmas dish. Brussels sprouts, love them or hate them, have long been a staple on the festive dinner table. But now, one supermarket has taken things to the next level by transforming this humble vegetable into a hot sauce.
This one-of-a-kind creation, called the Brussels Sprout Kimchi Hot Sauce, is the brainchild of 'condiment connoisseurs' Sauce Shop. It will be hitting the shelves of Aldi on November 28, with a price tag of £3.49. The unique blend features a combination of Brussels sprouts, kimchi, green jalapenos, and festive spices, promising a tangy and fiery kick that will elevate any holiday meal.
The idea for this unconventional sauce came from husband and wife duo, James and Pam Digva, who have a passion for fermentation. Pam explains, "We've taken our love for fermentation and applied it to something unexpected - Brussels sprouts. Our limited-edition sauce, exclusively created for Aldi, showcases the versatility of this superfood vegetable."
The possibilities for this sauce are endless, according to Pam. It can be drizzled over Christmas dinner, added to a Boxing Day sandwich, or used to spice up a turkey noodle stir-fry. Aldi's UK managing director of buying, Julie Ashfield, admits that this collaboration with Sauce Shop may be the most controversial yet, but she is confident that even the most sprout-averse individuals will be won over.
For those who still can't bring themselves to try the Brussels Sprout Kimchi Hot Sauce, Sauce Shop is also launching a Cranberry Hot Sauce, described as a delicious twist on their best-selling Honey Sriracha Drizzle. This spicy concoction, made with warm mulled wine spices, sweet honey, and tangy cranberry, will hit the shelves on the same day.
In a similar move, Tesco has recently released two new sauces in collaboration with the Japanese-inspired restaurant chain Wagamama. The Wagamama Katsu Vegan Mayo, made with soy sauce, ginger, and spices, has a medium chilli rating. The Vegan Firecracker Mayo, with a hot chilli rating, is made with chilli pepper, garlic, and ginger. Tesco also shared a chef's tip for using the sauces, suggesting to stir them through shredded cooked chicken for a tasty sandwich filler, or drizzle them over fries or salad.
