Temperatures are starting to decrease in the southern and eastern regions of Australia, providing some much-needed relief after a scorching day yesterday. According to Senior Meteorologist Sarah Scully, all severe heat warnings have been cancelled for Victoria and South Australia thanks to a cool change sweeping through. The intense heat caused discomfort for many, with Mount Gambier and Melbourne both reaching a high of 37 degrees.
But today, Scully assures us that we can expect much cooler conditions. She explains that a large amount of humidity and tropical moisture has been moving over eastern Australia, creating a slow-moving rain band that is currently extending from the interior to the south-eastern parts of the country. This system includes showers, rain areas, and storms that are expected to persist for some time.
While the warm weather will continue in New South Wales and Queensland, with Sydney's west reaching temperatures in the mid to high 30s until mid-next week, it will be slightly milder in other regions. Perth will see a high of 34 degrees, Canberra 33 degrees, and Darwin 32 degrees. Adelaide will experience a more moderate top of 27 degrees, Brisbane 28 degrees, and Sydney 29 degrees. However, it will be significantly cooler in Victoria, where a high of 22 degrees is expected, and Hobart will have a cooler 20 degrees.
