We are sad to announce that legendary BBC Radio 1 presenter Adele Roberts has officially bid farewell to the station after eight years. The 44-year-old had been with Radio 1 since 2015, and in 2020 she became the first Black woman to host the network’s Breakfast Show.
Head of Radio 1, Aled Haydn Jones, praised Adele's dedication to her work, noting that she ‘always puts others first’. He continued to say that she ‘continually goes above and beyond for others’, citing her support for key workers during the pandemic and her courage in dealing with her own diagnosis of cancer.
Adele has shared details of her health journey over the past two years, after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in October 2021. She underwent chemotherapy treatment and had a tumour removed in January 2022. She has also been vocal about living with a stoma, whom she affectionately named Audrey.
