Adam Thomas, the Strictly Come Dancing star, has opened up about his struggles ahead of the live shows. The 35 year old actor from Waterloo Road is set to take the dancefloor with Luba Mushtuk to perform a Waltz to I Wonder Why by Curtis Stigers.
Adam took to Instagram to share his pre-show nerves just days before the big night. He said: "This is the bit I hate. We've only had a few hours this morning, and I don't know what it is, but Saturday night nerves get the better of me and my mind's a mush and I forget the routine. I just go into a bit of a panic mode."
Luba found a solution to help Adam get over the nerves. She invited students from the training studio next door to watch them rehearse. Adam's reaction was one of surprise. He said: "I'm having a full-on anxiety attack already. I don't know what it is. If you've got any tips or advice to send my way, please feel free to slide into my DMs. It's the one thing I'm struggling with, but we'll get there. I know the routine which is a good thing."
As Adam and Luba head into week 4 on Strictly, Adam is also battling an excruciating health condition. He recently revealed he had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. He's been taking measures to keep it ‘under control’, requiring regular blood tests and doctor's appointments.
Adam was previously quoted as saying: "A couple of weeks ago, I couldn't really walk, I couldn't really do much. I'm taking really strong medication, and it's been tough, but I'm on the road to recovery."
It remains to be seen what effect Adam's nerves will have on his performance. Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.20pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
