Actor and model Kofi Siriboe recently made a big announcement on social media, revealing his latest project: The Other LA (TOLA), an artist retreat and residency in New Orleans. This new initiative, which Siriboe describes as a "labor of love," aims to support young Black artists on their journey to success. He gave a special shout-out to all the "destiny helpers" who assisted him in bringing TOLA to life.
To kick off the launch, TOLA teamed up with Black in Every Color's Josiah Jones and Art Above the Law's Prosper Jones for "The Migration" exhibition. This three-day event featured the work of 12 Black artists from New Orleans, showcasing a variety of mediums. And as if that wasn't exciting enough, Siriboe will also be presenting some pieces at The Line Hotel during the Black In Every Color, Art In Every Form showcase in Los Angeles, just before the NAACP Image Awards.
This year's showcase will include panels, performances, and immersive installations by talented artists such as JOJO ABOT, Lisane Basquiat, Patrisse Cullors, LÁOLÚ, Adrienne Muse, Autumn Breon, Langston Allston, and Adrian Dunn. Some of the topics that will be discussed during the panel discussions include The Art of Impact and Influence, Innovation by Exhibition, Investing in the Future of Art, and Destination Crenshaw.
Siriboe also expressed his gratitude towards Paramount and its Content For Change initiative for believing in his vision for TOLA and collaborating to bring a stunning Langston Allston mural to the streets of Bayou Rd. He also shared his excitement for TOLA's future, stating that this dream has been years in the making, but it feels like it's just the beginning.
Many notable figures, including actress/producer/entrepreneur Issa Rae and fashion designer Ugo Mozie, congratulated Siriboe on the launch of TOLA. Mozie, in particular, expressed his pride for Siriboe, reminiscing about when TOLA was just a dream and seeing it come to life now. It's truly a remarkable achievement for Siriboe and a testament to his dedication and passion for the art world.
In other exciting news, a New Orleans artist recently made history as the first non-NFL employee to design the Super Bowl logo. It's inspiring to see talented artists from New Orleans making waves in the industry, and initiatives like TOLA will undoubtedly help pave the way for more diverse and inclusive representation in the art world.
