Sehore: On Friday, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a sit-in protest against the management of Saint Anne’s Higher Secondary School. This was in response to allegations that the school had instructed students not to come to school sporting “Tilak” on their foreheads and tying “Kalawa” around their wrists.
The protest gained traction when a large number of parents joined the agitators, and the group began chanting slogans against the school management. This was followed by an altercation between the members of the ABVP and the police, and even the Tehsilder arrived to the scene.
The students also shared that a few students had been allowed to enter the class, but only after they removed their “Tilak” and “Kalawa”. Furthermore, they said they were informed that they would not be allowed to enter the school if they were wearing these symbols.
When the issue was brought up to the principal of the school, Sister Alka, she said that examinations were taking place in the school, and a few students were chanting slogans. She explained that when she asked the children to not raise slogans during the examinations, it led to some misgivings among them.
The members of ABVP then submitted a memorandum to the district education officer Sanjay Singh Tomar demanding action. In the memorandum, they stated that the school management had acted with hatred towards the students.
