About the Kushalanagar Co Operative Society

The Kushalanagar Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (KSH), at the turn of the century, has set a record in the district's cooperative sector with the construction of a state-of-the-art building in Kushalanagar. Constructed at Kushalanagar Market Road at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore, the building comprises of five floors, high-rise meeting rooms, elevator rooms, security room, CC TV, spacious banking counter and all infrastructure facilities for customers.

Kushalanagar Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society, which has about 3,100 members, has been operating in Kushalanagar for the last 98 years. The society which was founded in 1921, has an office in Mullusoge. "We have been able to continuously bring the society on the road to profitability over the past few years with new projects," says Sharavanakumar, president of the society.

The society has jurisdiction in Kushalanagar town, Mullusoge, Gummanakolli, Madapattana, Gondibasavanahalli, Bolur, Guddeohasoor, Basavanahalli,   Hebbale, Kanive, Kudumangalore, Valnoor and Nanjayarapatna. The administrative office has been fully computerized since 2000, and now the society has been upgraded with sophisticated technology.

The Sangha, which started in 1921 in Mullusoge, moved to Kushalanagar in 1948.
The State Government in 1983-84 made a major contribution to revive the society by waiving loans worth Rs 6 lakhs. In 1999, the president of the association, T. R. Saravanakumar and the governing body fully dealt with the affairs of the society with the intention of providing fast service to the members of the bank. Nowadays, with higher turnover, they are also able to pay higher dividends, with higher net profits. In the year 2017-18, the Society has made a net profit of Rs 1 crore and 5 lakh, which is a record,  in the Co-operative Societies. The society is also contemplating setting up a separate fund to support the education of the children of the poorest of the poor and the loan adjustment so that the family members are not burdened with the death of the borrowed members. With the transformation of Kushalanagar town in recent times, the number of farmer members in the association has become scarce. The state-of-the-art technology building, built at a cost of Rs 2.64 crore consists of furniture, modern computer installation, lift facility, air conditioned system, safe security room as well as state of the art Reserve Bank as well as new state-of-the-art defense systems. Most of the stalls will be rented in the new building, with an annual rental income of more than Rs 20 lakhs. President T R. Sharavankumar said. It is a matter of pride that Kushalanagar society is one of the few primary co-operative societies in the district running, which is profitable. The society has been conducting an internal audit system every month. Training programs for staff and management are being conducted by senior co-operatives with a continuous program of information on farmers' credit and loan availability. Various funds have been set up to maintain members' health. The association is looking at increasing the number of members, increasing the amount of credit available to its members, and taking appropriate measures for loan disbursements.

In 2021, the society would honour all seniors and former presidents during the centenary occasion, who strove for development of the society. Saravanakumar, who is planning to expand the scope of the association to rural areas, said the project is being developed and the concept of a suitable project for the centenary building is being developed.

He said the Kushalanagar Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society, with the cooperation of the governing body and the members, is a model for other associations in the state. The net profit figures for the association in recent years was 2014-15 (86,21,135), 2015-16 (90,36,268), 2016-17 (84,58,469).

T. R. Saravanakumar was elected as the director of the association in 1993 and was president of the association for six years from 1999 to 2005, then served, as president, again in 2015. He was instrumental in the development of the association.
