AAIB still investigating Air India plane crash.

On Thursday, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) made a clear statement, refuting reports that suggested the investigation into the Air India Flight AI-171 accident had been concluded. The bureau emphasized that such claims were incorrect and mere speculation. According to the statement, the investigation is still ongoing and no final conclusions have been reached. The Preliminary Report, which was released earlier, only provided factual information that was available at that time. The Final Investigation Report, which will contain conclusions and safety recommendations, will be published once the investigation is completed, following international norms. It is worth noting that the AAIB conducts investigations in strict accordance with the Aircraft Rules of 2025 and India's obligations under ICAO Annex 13. These investigations are highly technical and evidence-based, with the goal of determining the root causes of accidents and enhancing safety. The AAIB also urged media organizations to exercise restraint and avoid premature speculation. The bureau stated that such reporting not only causes unnecessary public anxiety but also undermines the integrity of an ongoing professional investigation. The AAIB remains committed to transparency, procedural integrity, and the highest standards of aviation safety. Earlier this month, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol informed the Rajya Sabha that the AAIB is thoroughly investigating the Air India Flight AI-171 crash from all angles. The bureau aims to complete the investigation in a timely manner, in accordance with ICAO rules. The tragic incident occurred on June 12, 2025, when Air India Flight AI-171 crashed just seconds after takeoff from the Ahmedabad airport, hitting a medical college hostel building. The crash resulted in the deaths of 241 passengers and crew on board the plane, as well as 19 people on the ground. In July, the AAIB released a preliminary report stating that both engines of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner lost thrust after the fuel cut-off switches were moved from the 'RUN' to the 'CUTOFF' position. However, the cockpit voice recorder revealed that one of the pilots had informed the other that they did not turn off the fuel control switches. The switches were then returned to the RUN position just before the crash.
