Tragedy struck the village of Kulumuhi in Rayagada when a mud wall collapsed on a family of five during heavy rains on Saturday night. The incident claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl, Samanti Wadka, and left her family members with serious injuries. Her father, Burja Wadka, mother Kudunji Wadka, younger sister Sanjana Wadka, and brother Sanju Wadka, aged 50, 40, 5, and 3 respectively, were all affected by the collapse.
The family was fast asleep when the wall beside their sleeping area suddenly crumbled, trapping them under a pile of mud. The sound of their cries for help woke up the villagers, who quickly rushed to the scene. With great effort, they managed to pull out the survivors and rushed them to the nearby Kalyansinghpur CHC. However, their injuries were so severe that they had to be transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Rayagada.
The severity of the situation caught the attention of Rayagada Collector Parul Patawari, who immediately sent sub-collector Kalyani Sanghamitra Devi to visit the victims. She provided them with financial assistance of Rs 10,000 from the Red Cross Fund and Rs 30,000 from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The victims were deeply grateful for the support during their time of need. In addition, District Emergency Officer Lalit Mandal and District Project Officer for Disaster Management Jyotirmaya Patra were also present to offer their support.
The entire village was in shock and mourning for the loss of young Samanti and the injuries sustained by her family. The authorities have promised to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of the villagers, especially during heavy rains. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of nature and the importance of being prepared for any disaster. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Wadka family during this difficult time.
