Sarah Merker, 49, can now disclose the key to a flawless scone…

A female has ultimately consumed her last scone after embarking on a mission to eat one at every feasible National Trust venue 10 years ago.

Sarah Merker, of Isleworth in London, claims she can now divulge the secret to a flawless scone after tasting 244 across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The 49-year-old initiated the National Trust Scones blog to list her experiences – and has even created a book from it.

‘I assumed it would take me maybe five years or something, I didn’t anticipate to do it hastily,’ she said.

‘But I didn’t conceive it would take me 10 years.

‘It’s been educational, it’s been my holidays, it’s been weekends.’

But Sarah’s journey has also been an ’emotional’ one, after losing her husband Peter to cancer in 2018. He had accomplished most of the quest with her.
