A tunnel collapse in Telangana has trapped workers, prompting rescue teams to rush to the scene.
The city of Hyderabad is currently gripped with a tense situation as rescuers work tirelessly to free a group of engineers and workers who have been trapped inside a tunnel for the past 24 hours. The incident occurred when a section of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal project collapsed, causing panic and chaos among those present at the site.

Officials have reported that the rescue teams have managed to reach up to the 13th kilometer inside the tunnel, which is a short distance away from where the mishap took place on Saturday morning. Despite calling out for the trapped individuals, there has been no response, leaving the rescuers worried and determined to reach them.

The state Ministers, N Uttam Kumar Reddy and J Krishna Rao, have already made their way to the site to oversee the rescue operations. According to sources, the teams are facing a challenging situation as they have to navigate through debris filled with iron, muck, and cement blocks to reach the trapped individuals. They are currently assessing the area where the Tunnel Boring Machine was last placed before the collapse.

A senior police official stated that the teams have almost reached the final point and are evaluating the situation. It is reported that out of the eight trapped individuals, six belong to Jaiprakash Associates while the remaining two are employees of a US company.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reached out to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to inquire about the incident and assured the state of all possible assistance from the Centre for the ongoing rescue operation. The rescue operation, which is being carried out by the NDRF, SDRF, Army personnel, and the company's employees, is still ongoing as they work tirelessly to free the trapped individuals.

According to officials, about 50 people had gone inside the tunnel in the first shift on Saturday morning when construction work had just resumed. Among them, 42 managed to escape while eight, including two engineers, got trapped when the roof of the tunnel suddenly collapsed. The tunnel, which is 44 kilometers long, is being constructed to draw water from the Srisailam project to irrigate four lakh acres in the Nalgonda district. However, with only 9.50 kilometers of work remaining, the incident has caused a major setback to the project.

The Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, has been constantly monitoring the situation and has instructed officials to expedite the rescue operation to save those trapped inside. The government has also assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the trapped individuals.
