A student preparing for NEET exams commits suicide in Kota, marking the 12th suicide by a coaching student this year.
A tragic event has shaken the city of Kota, as a 17-year-old medical student reportedly took his own life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his rented accommodation. This marks the twelfth suspected suicide case of a coaching student in Kota since the beginning of the year, bringing the total number of student suicides to 26 in 2023.

The student, Hrishit Kumar Agrawal, originally from Bihar and currently in Class 12, was preparing for the highly competitive NEET exam at a coaching institute in Kota. He resided in a rented room with other coaching students in the Dadabari area of the city. According to ASI Shambhu Dayal, it was around 1 pm on Thursday when the other students became concerned after Agrawal did not respond to their knocks on his door. The police were immediately alerted and upon breaking into the room, they discovered Agrawal hanging from the ceiling fan. No suicide note was found in the room.

The body was unfortunately in a decomposed state, leading the authorities to believe that the student may have taken his own life the day before. Circle inspector Naresh Kumar Meena shared that Agrawal had been studying in Kota for the past two years, with the hopes of gaining admission to a medical college. His parents have been informed of the tragic incident and the body has been sent for a post-mortem at MBS hospital, pending their arrival.

This unfortunate incident is not the first of its kind in Kota. On June 16, another student from Bihar, Ayush Jaiswal, also committed suicide in his PG room while preparing for the IIT-JEE exam. In another heartbreaking case, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant, Bagisha Tiwari, allegedly jumped from the ninth floor of a building in the coaching hub just a day after the NEET-UG results were announced. She had scored an impressive 320 out of 720 marks.

The city of Kota, known for its numerous coaching institutes and high pressure to excel in competitive exams, has seen far too many young lives lost to suicide. The authorities and coaching institutes must take necessary measures to address this issue and provide support to struggling students. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Hrishit Kumar Agrawal during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.
